Founded in 2006 by Sir Wally Herbert, his daughter Kari, and his wife Marie, the aim of Polarworld is to bring to a wider audience the many facets of the polar regions, from some of the best literature to art, photography and visual history. All three directors are published authors who have had critical success worldwide.
Since then, the company has grown into a multi-disciplinary publishing company, albeit still with a strong 'polar' focus.
Sir Wally Herbert
Sir Wally Herbert was a polar explorer of international distinction. He was the leader of the first expedition to cross the Arctic Ocean by its longest axis – an epic journey that took a year-and-a-half to complete on constantly shifting, breaking polar pack ice, and the first man to reach the North Pole on foot. He was honoured by countless societies and institutions. In the new millennium, he was awarded a Knighthood for his achievements, and is now regarded as being an icon of exploration.
Sir Wally had nine books to his credit, one of which was awarded a Literary Prize. He was also a fine artist, whose paintings are in Royal and private collectors around the globe. More info on Sir Wally and his life here.
